Communication & design are my passion
Hello, my name is Steffi W. Neukirchen. I am an expert in communication & design. As a self-employed communication designer and university lecturer, I am guided in my projects by my desire to make good things visible, to give ideas and concepts a thoughtful form so that they can manifest themselves. I develop projects clearly, analytically and strategically, always with a wealth of creative ideas and always towards an optimal end state. In doing so, I am open, think in terms of possibilities, and learn from what has been good for what is to come.
I am a collector and preserver, I love people and their stories, methods for creativity development and the hand painted signs of Saigon.
After a three-year stay abroad in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), I have been living again in Germany, more precisely in Berlin, since 2018. Here I have been teaching “Design Conception, Media Conception and Design Thinking” at the University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Technology, Berlin in the Master’s program in Business Communication and completed an 18-month advanced training at the BZHL for the Berlin Certificate for Higher Education Teaching.
In addition, I am committed to female empowerment issues. Together with Anne Lücking Mewald, I initiated an international pilot project “explore.define.grow” on career reorientation for women, which took place in Ho Chi Minh City in February 2019 and in Berlin in spring 2020.
A few facts about me:
- Twenty years of experience developing and implementing complex design projects, in both print and interactive media
- More than four years of experience in teaching at national and international universities in the fields of communication design and digital media
- Systemically trained (NLP Master at the Institute for Systematic NLP Hamburg, 2008 and Systemic Coaching at the Berlin International Institute of Synergy, under the direction of Hartwig Marx, 2020 – 2021)
- Internationally and interculturally experienced through several months of travel and stays abroad in Asia, the USA and soon in Florence, Italy
If you want to know more about me:
In 2001, I graduated from the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences with a degree in communication design. After that I worked in well-known national and international agencies on numerous projects in the field of communication design, both print and interactive. For example, until 2011 as creative director at Fork Unstable Media in Hamburg for clients such as RITTER SPORT and NIVEA.
My projects have won several awards, including red dots for high design quality (Essen), silver and bronze medals at the DDC competition Kommunikation vernetzt (Frankfurt am Main). My work was shortlisted at the Cyberlions (Cannes) and I was nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.
A university is an inspiring place of learning and experimentation for me, so I never really left that environment. I taught experimental typography and information design at RheinMain University. In the project “trytype – experiments in typography” I worked alongside Professor Guido Ludes as a research assistant and co-authored the associated book project.
Before moving to Vietnam, I taught at the Designhochschule Schwerin as Professor for Interactive Media. As an Associate Lecturer at RMIT Vietnam, School of Communication and Design, I also taught Interactive Media, but also Editorial Design and Typography as part of the Bachelor of Design (Digital Media). And I am deeply convinced that “Print is not dead”.
In Vietnam, I also had the opportunity to turn my passion for typographic finds in urban spaces into an academic research project on the “visual identity of the city of Saigon”.
Why my job is just right for me:
I am curious by nature and love to ask questions. As a designer and also as a teacher, every project is a journey for me, a departure to a new place, a product I don’t know yet, a service that is new to me or an industry I can engage with deeply. An opportunity to think things that didn’t exist before.
What do you need? How can I support you?
