Hello,
my name is Steffi W. Neukirchen. I’m curious by nature, enjoy asking questions, and am continually inspired by new ideas and people. As a designer, professor and coach, I’m particularly interested in what can emerge when we look at things from different perspectives and develop ideas together.
After spending several years in Vietnam, I returned to Berlin in 2018, where I have been based ever since. I have worked and taught at design agencies and universities across Europe, Asia and the US. The different places, people and cultures I’ve encountered have had a strong influence on my work and on the way I see design.

Becoming visible is a process for independent professionals that goes far beyond choosing the right color or shape. It begins with finding your own focus, putting ideas into words, defining values, and developing a clear vision. I accompany this journey with empathy, clarity, and a keen sense for what is already there — helping you recognize its potential and make it visible.
My approach combines more than 25 years of experience developing complex design projects for clients such as Mercedes-Benz, NIVEA, and Ritter Sport with methods drawn from strategy and coaching.
Teaching
Creative Lab & Training Center
To me, a university is an inspiring place for learning and a space for experimenting with new ideas and professional practice. As a facilitator, I encourage exploratory thinking and a willingness to look beyond established perspectives towards the world of tomorrow.
At IU International University of Applied Sciences, I am responsible for the foundation courses within the design degree programs. I support students in developing cross-media concepts and regularly supervise bachelor’s theses addressing socially relevant topics.
Research
Every visual trace is an event
Why do people do what they do? How do they do it, and what traces do they leave behind? Observing and exploring cultural practices is a journey with an unknown destination — and, ultimately, a journey towards oneself.
In Vietnam, my passion for typography developed into a university-funded research project on the hand-painted signs of Saigon. Through fieldwork and interviews, I learned to read them as more than just words: they revealed stories about the country and its people.
